A Message from the Ex-Prime Minister of Pakistan, His Excellency Muhammad Nawaz Sharif

The efforts of BISP are commendable and will help us in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) of eradicating extreme poverty and hunger.

BISP is more than a social safety net program; it is an avowal of Pakistan’s commitment to financial independence and a transition out of poverty. The PML(N) Government of Pakistan is unequivocally committed to empowering women primarily because we understand that the participation of women in the economic field is crucial for sustainable development.

I firmly believe that it is our national duty to protect the interests of all our people but especially our women and to provide them equal opportunities without any discrimination in order to effect change and for them to become productive members of the society. I am proud to state that Pakistani women are effectively participating in all sectors of the economy and many of them have excelled in their respective fields.

As Pakistan faces daunting threats both within and outside its boundaries, we are proud to say that our commitment to the provision of social safety nets to our poorest stands indomitable. I am confident that the maintenance and augmentation of this program will always remain high on the list of priorities for the PML(N) Government of Pakistan.

We have received immeasurable support from our international development partners who have acutely perceived our keen desire to accelerate sustainable and equitable growth to lift more people of Pakistan out of poverty. Without their continued collaboration, BISP would not be able to function as effectively as it does today.

I urge the Government, stakeholders and beneficiaries to continue in this tradition of excellence that we have set and I hope that the beneficiaries of BISP will continue to get all the support that they require from the Government of Pakistan.
